Putting Eyes On The Blind spots with SUAVs

If your line of work includes surveillance and providing security to large areas you should be fully aware that no matter how good or advanced a surveillance camera system is, there are always blind spots that cannot be reached by a single asset.  Unfortunately, these are the spots that bad intentioned intruders will leverage to accomplish their goal.  High-flying drones sweeping an area move on along their planned route; camera systems are plagued by blind spots caused by terrain features; and human patrols simply cannot see everything.

To be able to cover 100% of the territory one will need to have an array of different types of cameras, towers, and other surveillance assets with communications connectivity to each of them.  Sometimes this requires the procurement of terrestrial systems, like in the case of a Border Protection project in which the towers are sometimes installed on privately owned land, thus increasing the cost hosting the system and adding to the complexity of the system management.  And there are the inherent limitations of the cameras, that while being fixed, it requires a high level of expertise to be able to locate and follow a subject of interest from the viewing angle of one single camera to the next camera.

The good news is that with the technological advances of Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (SUAV´s) those blind spots can be a thing of the past.  The flexibility of a small rotary wing aircraft which can hover over a spot to provide a detailed view of the ground below, or the longer flight time of a fixed wing aircraft that can be manually controlled to inspect an area of interest, cover areas already swept by bigger systems, or fly a pre-planned flight route autonomously to “illuminate” those hard to see areas, can be your solution to provide consistent, persistent and detailed view of 100% of your area of interest.
